The
Shops & Establishments department is headed by the Chief Inspector,
Shops & Establishments. Four Dy. Chief Inspectors (Shops &
Establishment) are responsible for the functions of the department
at each ward.

Functions…
- Registration
of establishments.
- Renewing
registration Certificate of registered Establishments
- Regulating
the condition of work and employment in various establishments
to check working hours, weekly off, rest interval leave, holiday,
wages, etc. to the workers employed in such establishments.
How
do I register my establishment ?
To
register the establishment under the Shops and Establishments Act
certain documentary evidence in respect of rightful possession /
occupation of the premises of hte establishment needs to be obtained
as prescribed under the Act. For details contact your local Ward
Office.
When
registering the establishment please keep the following in mind
- The
application for registration of establishment is not accepted
prior to the commencement of business.
- The
employer is obliged t oget his establishment registered within
30 days from the date of commencement of his business by sending
to the Inspector of his area with a statement in the prescribed
from 'a' along with the requisite fees as laid down under ruie
5 vide schedule - I appended to Maharashtra Shops & Establishment
Rules 1961.
- This
is merely a "Registration Certificate" and not a licence
and does not by itself bestow any legality on the structure in
which the shop/commercial establishment is located.
