Project Performance - The Education Department

A large proportion were unaware or not able to answer about the different aspects of municipal schools. Only around a third of all respondents were of the opinion that the Education Department did a good job of maintaining municipal school buildings, providing teaching aids and basic facilities, assistance to balwadis and special education to disabled children.

 Evaluation of municipal schools :

In the sample, 78% had children but only 18% of those with children sent their children to municipal schools. This is, as expected, primarily in the lower socio economic strata.

All respondents who had children in municipal schools were asked to rate a few aspects of the education being offered.

Almost two thirds of respondents felt that the quality of teaching in municipal schools was good. An equal proportion thought that the teachers in such schools were committed. Most respondents (about three-fourths) who had children in municipal schools were satisfied with the education provided and were of the opinion that a municipal school provided useful education.
